Davis’s Mukini Japanese Restaurant and Sushi is closing temporarily after learning an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

After learning a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19, owners of the Mikuni Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar in Davis are temporarily closing its doors.

“Despite our best efforts, we have a team member at Mikuni in Davis who tested positive to the COVID-19 virus. We wish our employee a speedy recovery while resting at home,” the business said via Facebook post Monday.

The county health department assured Mikuni that potential exposure to other employees is low, and guests are at minimum risk due to curbside pickup procedures, the post said. Even so, the business will remain closed for two or three days, according to owner Taro Arai. Employees thought to have contact with the staff member will be given adequate time to be tested.

During that time period, the exact length of which is unknown, the business will sanitize the facility and maintain “high standards of cleaning protocol” upon reopening.

“We are hopeful that by working together we will get through this pandemic,” the post said. “Thank you for your patience and understanding. We appreciate your support.”

“It’s a tough time, but I hope something good comes out from it,” Arai told The Sacramento Bee. “We’re just being positive and doing what we can.”
