Korean chicken, Thai street food and tacos: Here are 14 new restaurants from December

December brought the end of a long year many will be happy to see in the rearview mirror. It also brought more than a dozen new restaurants in and around Sacramento.

Eight of the 14 new restaurants are standalones, while the other six were already available elsewhere, though not all in the Sacramento region. Roseville had the most of any suburb with three.

  • A Part Cafe (217 Vernon St., Roseville): A Part Cafe’s brand of Middle Eastern fusion includes shwacos (shawarma meets tacos), chocolate chip-tahini cookies and shakshuka-filled pocket pies.
  • Bear Dive (1330 H St., Sacramento): Mike Gouddou and Mark Landregan’s “five-star dive bar” is all about simple food and drinks done well, like naked chicken wings or nachos topped with housemade queso.
  • BF Miyabi (1900 Douglas Blvd., Suite G, Roseville): BF Miyabi’s largely approachable menu of sushi rolls and donburi bowls also includes a few rarer dishes such as ankimo (monkfish liver) or truffle hamachi nigiri.

  • Blue Agave Taqueria & Bar (8785 Center Pkwy., Suite B120, Sacramento): Tacos are just $1.50 apiece on Tuesdays at this Mexican restaurant and bar in north Laguna, which serves breakfast all day.
  • Chando’s Tacos (8235 Laguna Blvd., Elk Grove): Fans of the West Sacramento-based taqueria can now get mulitas or flautas in this Elk Grove shopping center, where Chando’s opened its seventh location.
  • Dumpling House (2330 J St., Sacramento): Co-owner Linda Liu helped open Dumpling Houses in Davis and Lodi before her midtown project greeted customers on Dec. 28.
  • Kin Thai Street Eatery (1050 20th St., Suite 180, Sacramento): Sisters Napis Lindley and Napak Kongsitthanakor want to bring Thai street market flavors to their restaurant in the MARRS Building with dishes like luuk chin ping (skewered fish balls) and kanom dok jok (a savory cake made from fried taro root, sweet potato, pumpkin and black beans).

  • Main Street Tap House (209 Main St., Placerville): Downtown Placerville restaurateur Jose Rodriguez replaced Jack Russell Brewing’s former restaurant with this beer bar, which ups the bar food ante a bit with dishes like a curried butternut squash and pear soup or grilled salmon over rice with a coconut/lime/basil sauce.
  • Marco’s Pizza (25004 Blue Ravine Rd., Suite 119, Folsom): Franchisees Manh and Kim Tran brought the Ohio-based chain known for its crustless pizza bowls to Folsom.
  • Mikasa Asian Fusion (3000 Green Valley Rd., Suite B12, Cameron Park): A sushi-dominant menu includes items like the lobster roll (deep-fried lobster, imitation crab, seared asparagus and chili oil) and the playa blanca hand roll (red snapper tempura, avocado, cilantro, spicy mayonnaise and green onion).
  • Rays Chicken & Fish (3200 Fulton Ave., Sacramento): Chicken, seafood and waffles are all on the menu at this Arden Arcade fry shop, which has a sister restaurant and market in Stockton.
  • Sourdough & Co. (2731 Del Paso Rd, Suite 100, Sacramento): The El Dorado Hills-based sandwich, salad and soup shop debuted in north Natomas in early December.
  • True North Pizza (2135 Dale Ave., Sacramento): Pies get astronomical names at this Old North Sacramento pizzeria, including the Andromeda (mushrooms, olives, roasted onions, spinach, pepperoncini, ricotta, feta and white sauce) or the Orion (pepperoni, salami, house sausage, linguiça, ham, mozzarella, Parmesan and red sauce).

  • Vons Chicken (1906 Taylor Rd., Suite 100, Roseville): This is the first area location for the South Korea-based baked and fried chicken outpost, which launched U.S. operations in Sunnyvale in 2014 and has since expanded to more than 20 locations.
