A handful of new Sacramento-area restaurants opened their doors as 2022 drew to an end.

These 18 restaurants opened around the region in December 2022. They range from an Old Sacramento cereal bar to a downtown Roseville steakhouse, a Little Saigon newcomer and a New York-based boba chain making its West Coast debut.

Nearly a quarter of the new restaurants debuted in Folsom, while Elk Grove and Roseville added three eateries apiece and Orangevale one.

Ace’s Gyro Shack (1603 10th St., Sacramento): Capitol-adjacent office workers have been sneaking over to Ace’s for halal burgers, Philly cheesesteaks and falafel platters since the fast-casual Middle Eastern restaurant opened on Dec. 6.

Cerealism (128 K St., Sacramento): Laterica Reddix Espinoza opened her Instagrammable cereal bar in Old Sacramento on Dec. 3, inviting customers to blend their childhood favorites with ice cream or drain a sugary drink bucket.

Chipotle Mexican Grill (3302 Arden Way, Sacramento): This popular build-your-own-burrito chain has several locations throughout Sacramento, but this one in Arden Arcade is the first to feature a “Chipotlane” drive-through.

Curry Up Now (7470 Elk Grove Blvd., Suite 120, Elk Grove): The Bay Area’s hottest Indian fusion chain opened its third location in greater Sacramento, bringing deconstructed samosas and “naughty naan” to The Ridge shopping center.

Daniello’s Steakhouse (229 Vernon St., Roseville): This downtown Roseville steakhouse and speakeasy is the brainchild of Michael McDermott, owner of neighboring Italian restaurant The Place (also in Placerville).

Devil & Angel Desserts (410 Palladio Parkway, Folsom): Mix soft serve and boba, bite into a mochi dougnut or slurp an affogato at this dessert chain’s first area location in the Palladio Shopping Center.

Erik’s DeliCafe (411 Blue Ravine Road, Suite 400, Folsom): A Bay Area sandwich-and-salad chain, Erik’s DeliCafe added its second Sacramento-area restaurant on Dec. 6 following a Roseville location that debuted in 2013.

Maneki Sushi (1902 Taylor Road, Roseville): The first restaurant from Tracy’s Bay Boys Brewing composes eclectic Japanese-inspired options such as “Maneki spoons” (two spoonfuls of uni, quail egg, fish eggs and scallions) and “Fog City rolls” (crab mix and tempura lobster inside, seared bluefin tuna and arare on top).

Mode Brewing (9110 Greenback Lane, Orangevale): Randy and Tracy Davis’ new brewery has permanent kitchen for their Italian fusion concept Pasta a la Mode, which has operated as a food truck for the last few years.

Mr. Falafel (5539 H St., Sacramento): Look for baba ganoush, kofta kebab platters and Lebanese chicken wraps called shish tawook at this fast-casual Middle Eastern spot, which opened Dec. 10 in East Sacramento.

Phố Cổ Ba Saigon (6434 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento): Little Saigon’s newest restaurant has familiar options such as phở and vermicelli bowls, and also harder-to-find Vietnamese dishes including gà hấp cải bẹ xanh (whole chicken stewed in mustard greens) and canh khoai mỡ thịt bằm (purple sweet potato soup with minced pork).

Presotea (6616 Laguna Blvd., Suite 120, Elk Grove): Taiwanese tea chain Presotea broke into the Sacramento-area market with this store, which sells bubble waffles in addition to passion fruit, wintermelon and blueberry drinks.

Red Hot Chilli Pepper (2791 E. Bidwell St., Suite 100, Folsom): This Indo-Chinese chain started in Indian hotels, expanded to San Carlos in 2012 and just began serving hakka noodles, super-spicy chicken and more in Folsom’s Broadstone Plaza shopping center.

Rivas Mexican Grill (9007 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento): This Mexican restaurant in Rosemont is the first California location for Las Vegas-based Rivas, slinging shrimp tortas, al pastor nachos and chimichangas 24 hours a day.

Sushi Bar (6693 Folsom-Auburn Road, Folsom): Former Hisui Sushi chef Abel Bustillo whips up nigiri, sashimi and maki such as the Abel Special Roll (shrimp tempura, tuna, jalapeños, spicy crab mix, salmon and masago sauce) at this Japanese restaurant connected to Limon É Sal Taqueria Bar.

Taco Twist (7441 Foothills Blvd., Suite 170, Roseville): The sister restaurant to Taco Twist in Yuba City, this Indian-Mexican fusion concept has been gathering a Tik Tok following for its malai chicken tikka nachos, vegetable Manchurian burritos and naan tacos since opening on Dec. 22.

Taichi Bubble Tea (5801 Folsom Blvd., Suite 110, Sacramento): Sushi burritos, poke bowls, and ramen are on the menu at this New York-based boba chain, which opened its first West Coast location in East Sacramento on Dec. 4.

Xulo Coffee Bar (8698 Elk Grove Blvd., Suite 5, Elk Grove): Alfredo Peña and Jorge Rodriguez-Cruz’s cafe opened Dec. 15 in the Elk Grove Crossing shopping center, serving pan dulce, cinnamon rolls and breakfast sandwiches to go with drinks made from Rocklin-based Vaneli’s Handcrafted Coffee beans.
