Popular ice cream shop opening a new location in Placer County. Here are the details

Salt & Straw will open an ice cream parlor in one of Roseville’s most popular shopping centers this fall, the Oregon-based creamery announced in an email to The Sacramento Bee on Wednesday.

The ice cream shop will open at 1182 Roseville Parkway, Suite 110 in the Fountains at Roseville. It’ll be Salt & Straw’s second Sacramento-area shop, following one in midtown’s Ice Blocks development that debuted to long lines in September.

Founded by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek as a Portland food cart in 2011, Salt & Straw became rapidly popular thanks to its embrace of offbeat flavors, which rotate each month.

June, for example, focuses on “upcycled” foods through flavors such as lemon curd and whey, malted chocolate barley milk and day-old bread pudding and chocolate ganache. More classic flavors such as chocolate chip cookie dough and vanilla are also available at all times, as are a smattering of dairy-free options.

Salt & Straw has scoop shops in Florida, Nevada and Washington in addition to California and Oregon, and pints can be found in freezer aisles or delivery boxes nationwide. It’s seen a significant expansion since actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson came on as an investor in 2019.
