New Japanese restaurant is opening in Sacramento. Here’s where and when

What's opening in the Sacramento area

A new Japanese restaurant is coming to Sacramento’s Land Park neighborhood.

Located at 1235 Broadway, Fuji shares a name and basic cuisine concept with the Japanese restaurant that previously occupied the spot.

Although the two restaurants are not affiliated, restaurant owners Russell Okubo and Kevin Oto hope to honor the original Fuji restaurant.

Okubo and Oto grew up in Sacramento, and Okubo knows the family that owned the original Fuji restaurant.

“He got the blessing from that family to basically carry on the name and bring it back to the community,” said Bea Nocon, Fuji restaurant employer. “That’s why it was very, very important for him to do traditional Japanese (food) here to kind of honor that.”

“We’re bringing back Fuji’s and we’re going to specialize in good food at affordable prices with great drinks,” Oto said.

“We’re going to focus on doing a few dishes and doing them right and doing them really well,” he added. “We’re going to focus on just bringing people in the community and ... helping revitalize Broadway a little bit.”

What’s on the menu at new Japanese restaurant in Sacramento?

The menu currently on the Fuji website is a “placeholder,” Nocon said, noting that the restaurant’s offerings are still undergoing some “tweaking.”

Currently the menu lists an assortment of traditional Japanese dishes such as nigiri sushi, steak batayaki and yakisoba noodles.

“We are not doing fusion here,” Nocon said.

What hours will Fuji be open?

Fuji will be open seven days a week for dinner and brunch.

The restaurant will be open for dinner 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 5 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

There will also be a happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

On the weekend, the restaurant will be open for brunch 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

When is new Land Park restaurant opening?

Fuji’s owners are shooting to open the restaurant on Dec. 17, Nocon said.

Customers can sign up to the restaurants mailing list to stay up to date.
