La Provence Restaurant & Terrace, a dignified Roseville restaurant specializing in French countryside dishes, will close after dinner service Saturday, an employee confirmed to The Sacramento Bee on Tuesday.

Opened on Valentine’s Day 2004 at 110 Diamond Creek Place, Suite 100, La Provence’s old-world charm and modern options made it a Placer County favorite for birthday celebrations, anniversaries and weddings over the years.

Escargot imported from Burgundy, house-smoked duck breast with a Merlot reduction and pistachio-crusted rack of lamb marinated in Vadouvan curry exemplified La Provence’s ethos, along with more California-influenced dishes such as pesto portobello burgers and seared halibut over basmati rice. Monthly wine dinners paired five courses with pours from local vintners, and 51 acres of neighboring open space provided picturesque backdrops to special events.

La Provence was designed to mimic a European country estate, with different feels between each room. A main hall with chandeliers, an open fireplace and reclaimed wood from the 1930s led to the garden room with its panorama views and a private dining area’s stone walls and hardwood floors. An on-site garden grew ingredients used in dishes.

Yet La Provence seemed to struggle as of late, according to many diners. The restaurant’s 47 Yelp reviews posted in 2024 averaged less than three stars, and several Reddit users decried their recent experiences.

La Provence’s owners did not immediately respond to requests for comment. An employee who answered the restaurant’s phone confirmed the impending closure but said she was not authorized to speak further about it.
