Sacramento County inspectors close convenience store after finding cockroaches. Which one?
Sacramento County health inspectors recently closed a capital convenience store after identifying an active cockroach infestation.
According to the Sacramento County Food Inspection Guide, restaurants are assigned a placard — green, yellow or red — based on inspection results.
A green placard indicates the establishment has passed inspection, while a yellow placard signals two or more major violations, which are usually corrected or mitigated during the inspection process.
A red placard, however, represents an “imminent danger to public health and safety” and leads to a suspended health permit until all issues are resolved.
Major vermin infestations and other serious hazards can prompt a red placard.
The county conducts around 14,000 inspections annually, with roughly 97% of establishments passing, spokesman Ken Casparis previously told The Sacramento Bee.
Approximately 1% of inspections result in closures.
During previous inspections, health inspectors closed a local Mexican restaurant and sports organization after identifying serious health violations, including mice droppings and a sewage blockage.
Los Inmortales Taqueria, 6670 Valley Hi Drive in Sacramento’s Valley Hi / North Laguna, and Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation, 9040 High Tech Court in Elk Grove, have since passed re-inspections and received green placards.
Here are the results of Sacramento County food facility inspections for Nov. 21 through Tuesday, Nov. 26, as of Wednesday morning:

Sacramento County health inspectors close local convenience store
7-Eleven, 802 J St. in Sacramento, had four violations on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
Sacramento County health inspectors shut down the downtown convenience store after uncovering significant health code violations, including an active cockroach infestation.
Inspectors reported finding 25 German cockroaches, with three in the middle of the walkway near the three-compartment sink and 22 at various life stages clustered around debris and wooden materials next to the freezer for ice bags.
Additional violations included improper cleaning practices.
Inspectors observed a clogged sink, preventing employees from properly washing dishes.
One employee was seen attempting to clean a pizza cutter and container at the clogged sink, leaving visible food debris on the pizza cutter.
Potentially hazardous foods were also found at unsafe temperatures, including breakfast sandwiches, chicken wings and pizza-stuffed pies.
Other issues included a paper towel roll left next to the handwashing sink near the three-compartment sink and bar soap — which is an unapproved material — being used at the front handwashing station.
Inspectors had yet to reinspect the convenience store as of Wednesday, Nov. 27.
