A Winters burger business is upgrading from a truck to Main Street storefront
A Yolo County-based food truck is opening a brick-and-mortar store in a prime Winters spot less than a year after firing up the grill for the first time.
Burger Bros. Winters, owned and operated by Alejandro and Andres Salazar, will have a new outpost in historic downtown. According to a California alcohol sales license filing, the burger restaurant will be located at 43 Main St., down the street from the popular Buckhorn Steakhouse.
The Salazars uploaded a video on the Burger Bros.’s Facebook page Tuesday morning showing the storefront with a “coming soon” sign posted in the large front window and glass door.
The brothers are hoping to open the restaurant in June, pending building repairs and updates to create a retro diner-style experience, Alejandro Salazar said.
The burger joint is opening in the place of the long-standing El Pueblo Taqueria and Meat Market, which shut down in October, according to the Winters Express newspaper.
The Salazars have been serving up a bite-sized menu of smash burgers, hot dogs and milkshakes since last summer, according to Salazar. The duo’s truck is located near Railroad Avenue and Edwards Street, a quarter-mile from their new permanent location.
Salazar said the new restaurant will keep a limited menu, citing In-N-Out Burger’s highly successful strategy.
“As long as you stay consistent and keep the quality good, I think people will come,” he said. “People will be happy to spend money when you’re cooking fresh food.”
The brothers have been exposed to the food industry for as long as they can remember — Salazar said his father has owned a multitude of restaurants in the Sacramento area for the last three decades.
Alejandro got in on the family business in 2014, helping his dad open Chuy’s Taqueria, at 208 Railroad Ave. in Winters, and a corresponding Chuy’s food truck at the Vacaville Premium Outlets.
While Alejandro has devoted himself to food-related ventures, Andres Salazar is a musician and music teacher by day, with a passion for barbecuing and grilling burgers. After perfecting his recipe for a smash burger, Andres encouraged his brother to join him in starting their own business, Alejandro said.
The pair fused Alejandro’s restaurant-savviness with Andres’ knowledge of administrative work and social media engagement to boost the food truck’s visibility. Since then, Burger Bros. has been “blowing up around Winters,” Alejandro said. Burger Bros. Winters has nearly 2,000 followers on Instagram.
In December, the eponymous burger brothers posted a video on Facebook thanking the Winters community for its support of the duo’s business in its first six months.
