Chain restaurant Seasons 52 closed its Sacramento outpost Monday. Here’s why

Dozens of food service workers were out of a job Monday when Seasons 52 in Sacramento abruptly shut its doors.

According to a California layoff notice filed on Monday, 85 employees were affected by the permanent closure of the Arden Fair mall restaurant, at 1689 Arden Way, Suite 1065.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice to the state cited “business conditions and distribution challenges in the area” as the reason for closing the popular bar and grill, which opened in January 2013. Affected employees would be given 60 days of wages and benefit payments, according to the state Employment Development Department filing, and will have the opportunity to transfer to a different location.

A representative for Darden Restaurants, the group that owns Season 52 and other popular chains including Olive Garden and Yard House, did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday.

The phone number listed for the Arden Fair restaurant reaches an automated message informing callers that a Kansas City Seasons 52 branch was permanently closed, as reported by The Kansas City Star, The Bee’s sister publication.

As of Tuesday morning, there were two remaining Seasons 52 restaurants in California, in San Diego and Costa Mesa, and 43 total locations across the U.S.

In recent weeks, Darden Restaurants also closed 15 Bahama Breeze restaurants nationwide, accounting for more one-third of the Caribbean-inspired chain’s total footprint, according to CNN.
