The owners of Midtown’s Cantina Alley are developing a new restaurant concept in Folsom’s Historic District, replacing the evicted Mexican restaurant Q’bole Cocina & Cantina.

Art Aguilar and Max Archuleta opened Midtown’s Cantina Alley in March 2017 at 2320 Jazz Alley, known for its take on Mexican street food, serving up fish tacos and palomas.

Their new venture will be located at 718 Sutter St., Suite 201, a space previously home to Q’bole for a decade. Q’bole owner Diana Calderon served traditional dishes from Mazatlán, Mexico.

Calderon withheld rent for several months and remained in the space, alleging retaliation, according to previous Bee reporting. The property owner, Moe Hirani, told The Bee in 2024 that he had filed an unlawful detainer lawsuit to evict her.

The restaurant closed in early 2025 and a lawsuit for breach of contract between Calderon and the property owner remains ongoing.

In a message to Bee editors on Friday, Calderon said her business was not evicted.

CORRECTION: This story was updated to clarify Q’bole’s departure from the space was not an eviction and the ongoing lawsuit for breach of contract with the property owners, Visione Enterprises LLC.
