‘Mil Gracias!’: East Sacramento Mexican restaurant set to close later this month

After more than 15 years on a busy stretch of Folsom Boulevard in East Sacramento, a Mexican diner will close its doors later this month.

Cafe Capricho’s owners are preparing to sunset the restaurant in the next two weeks, according to a Facebook announcement Monday morning.

“We are retiring,” the post reads. “(We) want to thank you for your kind and generous support throughout the 15 1/2 years that Cafe Capricho has been in business.”

Owner Marina Winchester opened her restaurant at 3269 Folsom Blvd., in May 2010, according to the restaurant’s website. In honor of her Mexico City-area upbringing, Winchester serves central and southern Mexican dishes and includes some American features to the menu — namely a line of burgers.

A 2011 Sacramento Bee article said Winchester learned all of her cooking skills from her grandmother while growing up. She had not received any formal culinary training when she opened the cafe.

“Our family and staff want to express our great gratitude and deep appreciation for all of our dear customers,” the Facebook announcement says. “Thank you!! Mil Gracias!”

The cafe’s final day will be Friday, Jan. 16, according to the post.
