The ornate blue Victorian at 2321 K St. that houses Midtown’s Cantina Alley and the recently opened Abuela’s is about to get a swank new lounge upstairs called De Caché. All three businesses are under the same ownership.

De Caché is a Spanish language term meaning high end or classy, general manager Oscar Escobar said.

Working with the structure’s historic motif, De Caché will feature luxe, maximalist furnishings and romantic lighting, “inspired by the Golden Age of Mexico,” according to their social media.

“We’re going to offer classic cocktails with a Mexican flair and Spanish influence,” Escobar said.

For example, their twist on an old fashioned, called an anticuado, will be made with añejo tequila instead of the customary bourbon or rye.

Escobar and team took pains to make De Caché not only elegant but playful.

“This was basically a two-bedroom apartment. And then we got creative,” he said. “For instance, one of the sections of the bar has a confessional booth. It was a closet in one of the bedrooms that connects with the bar. Basically the bartender will be the priest.”

The bar will hold a private reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 17 and will open to the public from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

De Caché will initially be open 6 p.m.-1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Expanded hours will be announced after a grand opening at an as yet undetermined date.

The Queen Anne-style Victorian has been on the Sacramento Register of Historic & Cultural Resources since 1977.

Escobar said he also plans to open a new, Folsom version of Midtown’s Cantina Alley in the next few months.
