Bella Bru Cafe in El Dorado Hills set to close, cites ‘many challenges’
The El Dorado Hills branch of Bella Bru Cafe, the popular collective of European-inflected cafes, will close after service ends Saturday, Jan. 31.
A post on its social media says that the “decision was not made lightly,” and that it had “reached a point where closing the business was the right decision.”
Bella Bru Cafe was started by Elizabeth Mishler in Carmichael in 1993. Over the years it grew to become a beloved spot in the region, expanding to locations in Folsom, Natomas and El Dorado Hills. The Folsom location closed in 2010.
The social post cited headwinds as the reason for closure.
“Running a small business in California comes with many challenges, and we truly did everything we could to keep our doors open,” it said.
“From birthday parties to quiet morning coffees, each moment shared at Bella Bru Café has meant so much to us,” the post said. “The bonds formed here and the memories created will always be cherished.”
Customers expressed sadness over the announcement on the social post.
“For 28 years you have been there (like a trusted friend). You will be missed,” Trevor Thomas said.
Jennifer Allen posted, “Best Quiche EVER!!!! Going to miss you guys.”
The El Dorado Hills location is a franchise of the brand, run by Chris Kado. He was not available for comment to elaborate on what specific challenges the business has faced.
The original Carmichael restaurant and the branch in Natomas will remain open.
Bella Bru also operates a catering business, as well as Milagro Event Center and Luna Lounge near the original Carmichael location.
