The Black Bear Diner, known for its American comfort food, has closed it doors in Davis according to an announcement on March 29.

The diner spent 17 years in Davis, at 255 2nd St., serving home-style “all-American” food, its website stated. The diner fashioned a cozy, relaxed atmosphere.

“We are deeply grateful to our guests, our team, and this community for the memories, loyalty, and support you’ve shared with us over the years,” the diner chain said. “It has truly meant the world to us.”

There are 166 Black Bear Diners nationwide, with seven in the Sacramento region, according to the restaurant’s website. The following locations remain open:

  • 2700 El Centro Road near South Natomas
  • 1830 Arden Way in Sacramento
  • 8531 Bond Road in Elk Grove
  • 7935 Madison Ave. in Citrus Heights
  • 1530 E. Main St. in Woodland
  • 6700 Stanford Ranch Road in Roseville

The Davis closure’s announcement recommended diners go to the El Centro Road location near South Natomas or to Arden Way in Sacramento.

The chain diner originated in California in 1995, having opened its first store on Mt. Shasta. The owners of the chain pride itself on providing “home-cooked meals” that show the “small-town roots” of the business’s origins.
