Pizza returns to the former Pasquale’s in Carmichael — but there’s a twist

Late last year, beloved pizzeria Pasquale’s in Carmichael closed after 50 years in business. Now, a new pizza place is taking over the space, but it’s quite different.

The new restaurant is Desi Pizza Bites, which fuses traditional pizza with Indian flavors. The restaurant opened earlier this week, according to the Sacramento Business Journal.

Desi Pizza Bites offers some traditional pizzas, such as a Margherita and a classic combo, but also has many other, more creative toppings. The restaurant leans into Indian cuisine with offerings like butter chicken pizza and achari gobi pizza, sometimes even fusing the cuisines together, such as with the Desi pesto chicken pizza.

Desi Pizza Bites has one other location in the Sacramento area, at 299 Iron Point Rd. #100 in Folsom. The chain also has other Central Valley locations in Stockton, Fresno, Modesto and Tulare, as well as locations in the Bay Area and New York State.

Indian pizza has recently exploded as a trend in the Sacramento area, with several chains popping up. One spot, Tandoori Pizza, was even founded by UC Davis alumnus Tejinder “TJ” Singh, who grew it to a national chain.
