A new Thai restaurant, serving authentic dishes and classic Thai street food, has opened in Fair Oaks.

Yada Thai Cuisine, 8116 Madison Ave., is run by Tami Sawangwan, a longtime Sacramento resident whose restaurant serves up genuine Thai ingredients and flavors.

“Thai food is very rich in culture and flavors,” Sawangwan said. “Not a lot of Thai restaurants are doing that, that’s pretty much how we started. We just really love our culture and the food.”

Sawangwan and her family immigrated to Sacramento 16 years ago from Thailand. Owning restaurants has been a family tradition given Sawangwan’s grandmother owned multiple restaurants in the Bay Area, she said. Family is also the reason Sawangwan launched her own restaurant.

“It all started with my parents,” Sawangwan said. “They are really good cooks, and it’s something that they have been doing for generations now.”

Sawangwan’s father previously owned Rum Thai Bistro in Lincoln. After her father suffered a stroke, the family was forced to sell the business. Once he recovered, Sawangwan said her father wanted to open another restaurant and so Yada Thai Cuisine was born.

Menu items include Ayutthaya noodle soup with pork blood and a choice of meat. The restaurant also serves a variety of barbecue, curry and fried rice dishes.

Sawangwan said her personal favorite is Kana Moo Krob, a stir-fried broccoli entree with crispy pork belly served on jasmine rice.

Yada Thai Cuisine is in its soft opening phase, so it’s open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
