While we’re trekking outside in our winter boots, dogs aren’t so lucky. They’re expected to brave the elements barefoot. And although their feet are better equipped to handle the outdoors, extremely icy conditions can take a toll. That’s why providing your pup with winter paw protection is crucial. Below, we’ve made a list of items you can order directly from Amazon, including booties and hydrating balms, to help keep their feet healthy.

If your pup, like mine, won’t stand for shoes or spa treatments, we’ve also included preventative options. Think: electric shovels to make snow-free pathways and pet-friendly salt for your driveway. That way, they won’t even realize you’re basically on paw patrol (but undercover!).

Winter Dog Paw Protection Methods Your Pup Will Appreciate

  • Lace Up: These boots provide traction and protection from salt and ice all winter long. They come in a set of four and are made to last through several seasons — $25
  • Spa Day: This Finn Paw Hero Natural Dog Paw Balm fends off damage from salt, snow and cold. While it moisturizes your pup’s paw pads, it’s also made with all-natural ingredients that are 100% lick-safe. It’s basically a spa day for Fido — $20
  • Non-Slip: If your pup would rather skip the booties, paw protector pads may be an easier option. Using skin-friendly adhesive, they stick to the bottoms of their paws, protecting them from the elements. Plus, they provide non-slip traction for especially icy conditions — $24
  • Stay Salty: Salting your driveway and front walkway is crucial for safety, but sometimes it can be hard on your fur baby’s paws. Harris Kind Melt Pet Friendly Ice and Snow Melter, however, is pet-friendly. Its 100% magnesium chloride formula won’t burn, while the round shape is non-abrasive — $40
  • Wipe Away: Post-walk, wipe away salt and snow with Earth Rated Pet Wipes for Dogs and Cats. Containing moisturizing ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter and vitamin E, their paw pads will be soft as can be — $35
  • No Tracking: Snow, ice and salt will literally slide off with this 7-in-1 paw cleaner. Just stick their paws into it as soon as they come in from the house and any snow, ice and salt will come right off — $10
  • Pathways: Creating a clear path for your pup prevents them from coming into contact with too much snow or ice. Vevor’s Electric Snow Shovel is easy to use, and it’s rechargeable — $100
