One apparent victim in North Highlands fire
Arson investigators have identified the victim of a North Highlands fire as a 20- to 30-year-old female, according to the Sacramento Metro Fire Department.
Firefighters discovered the woman's body at a mobile home park Sunday morning after responding to a fire at what they thought was a vacant residence, said Capt. Chris Vestal of Metro Fire.
A call came in at about 9:10 a.m. reporting the fire in a trailer on the 7500 block of Costa Mesa Circle in North Highlands near Antelope, he said.
"It was not registered as having any occupants at the time," said Vestal, but responders discovered the victim while searching the building after controlling the fire.
The arson task force, a joint operation of Sacramento Metro Fire and the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, has tentatively determined that the victim's death was a direct result of the fire, Vestal said. The Sacramento County coroner will make the final determination.
Sacramento Metro Fire is waiting for the coroner's report before releasing any more information about the victim, Vestal said.
He said the investigation is still ongoing and it has not been determined whether the fire was intentionally set or not.
