The Sacramento Police Department Tuesday night confirmed a shooting took place around 6 p.m. on American River College’s satellite campus, the Natomas Center.
One person was shot and killed in the parking lot in front of the public library on campus, department spokeswoman Linda Matthew said. No details were available about the victim.
The suspect fled and is still at large, Matthew said, presumed to have fled after the shooting.
Officers taped off an entrance to the parking lot and much of the lot itself, blocking in some students’ cars.

Two ARC students, Josh Vargas and Juan Almaraz, were told their car would not be available until morning, they said.
Vargas and Almaraz said they were in class when the shooting occurred. An administrator walked in and told them they could not leave the room, they said.
“It’s part of modern day America, I guess you would say,” Vargas said.
Matthew said officers will remain on the scene overnight and into the morning.
