Man found dead in Colusa County after he was reported missing, hourslong search

Police tape at crime scene

An 84-year-old man was found dead in an irrigation canal in Williams after an hourslong search Saturday, but foul play is not suspected at this time, according to the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office.

Jim Hamner was reported missing early Saturday afternoon from his home near Hankins and Stovall roads in the city, about 50 miles northwest of Sacramento. Williams is home to the well-known Granzella’s restaurant and deli, right off Interstate 5.

The Sheriff’s Office said local fire departments, the California Highway Patrol and search and rescue officials from nearby Colusa and Glenn counties helped look for Hamner.

He was found around 9:15 p.m. close to his home.

The Colusa County Coroner’s Office will determine his cause of death.
