Putah Fire, which grew from escaped prescribed burn, grows along Highway 128 in Yolo County

Fire crews are responding to a 362-acre fire in Yolo County near Napa and Solano counties that has forced road closures along Highway 128.

The Putah Fire, which officials confirmed to be an escaped prescribed burn, originated along Highway 128 and crossed containment lines when winds picked up Monday morning, June 8.

Crews responded about noon to a 25-acre fire on Highway 128, west of Winters. The fire quickly spread and by 4 p.m. an aerial intelligence aircraft mapped it at about 362 acres, officials said. Just after 6 p.m., the fire was contained at 15%, according to Cal Fire.

Late Monday morning, authorities closed Highway 128 between Pleasant Valley Road and Canyon Creek Road.

The fire threatened power transmission lines, but no structures were in danger and evacuation orders had not been issued by 2 p.m., according to Cal Fire spokesperson Jason Clay.

About 200 fire personnel were responding to the fire, officials said. Six helicopters and 10 engines were on hand.

The fire comes as the National Weather Service announced a red-flag warning Monday morning for several Northern California counties, including Yolo, Napa and Solano counties, beginning Wednesday, June 10. In the announcement, the weather service said it anticipated gusty winds and low humidity until Thursday, June 11.
