S.F. Mayor Daniel Lurie on casting call for porn film: ‘I thought I've made it'
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie walked a line between gravity and humor at a Democratic gathering before Sunday's LGBTQ Pride Parade.
The morning Pride breakfast was hosted by the Alice B. Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club and drew a who's who of California politics, including Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, leading California gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins and many other elected officials and candidates. The club bills the annual Alice Pride Breakfast as one of the country's largest political Pride events.
"Over the past 18 months, I've had many moments, proud moments, other moments, but few moments compared to the pride of seeing a certain flyer in the Castro looking for a Daniel Lurie impersonator for an adult film," he said. "I saw that flyer, and I'm not gonna lie. I thought, ‘I've made it.'"
In May, a group of self-proclaimed San Francisco natives placed flyers in the Castro and Haight-Ashbury neighborhoods saying: "Daniel Lurie impersonator Needed For: Gay Adult Film." The potential film's title, "Let's Blow San Francisco," riffs off Lurie's popular "Let's go San Francisco" rallying cry.
Becerra also chimed in on a role in the film: "Can I find my impersonator before too much time as well?" he said in the middle of his speech.
