A Rancho Cordova hotel is offering free rooms to people who have friends or family members hospitalized, in a nursing home or in a treatment center during the holiday season.
The 90-unit Residence Inn by Marriott, 2779 Prospect Park Drive, will be making free stays available from Thanksgiving through Christmas Day.
The local hotel is one of 189 participating in TMI Hospitality’s “Room in the Inn” program. Fargo, N.D.-based TMI has overseen the program since 1988.
Terry Park, general manager of the Rancho Cordova Residence Inn, said his hotel has participated in the program every year since the beginning.

“It’s a great way of giving back to the community,” he said Friday. “It helps someone who might not be able to afford to visit a family member during the holidays…Families who cannot afford to eat out can also take advantage of our (in-room) kitchens.”
Park said the program typically involves an overnight stay. Terms of extended stays are worked out by individual hotels, according to TMI.
TMI also stressed that guests need to contact hotels directly to make a reservation, as rooms are subject to availability.
TMI spokeswoman Nicole Ellis said the “Room in the Inn” program was created by the development/management company to help friends and families who are separated from loved ones because of health issues during the holiday season.
She said the hotel chain “served 1,000 families nationwide…It’s the holiday season, and it’s a way we can help families dealing with a medical emergency.”
