Partnership launches energy-efficient retrofit at Folsom Automall

Officials of the Folsom Lake Ford dealership in the Folsom Automall on Monday signed a contract for a $1.6 million energy efficiency retrofit and solar power project made available through the city of Folsom’s green energy financing program, mPOWER Folsom.

The partnership also includes Placer County, which provides the mPOWER program in the cities of Auburn, Colfax, Folsom, Lincoln, Loomis, Rocklin, Roseville and unincorporated areas of Placer County. Folsom officials worked with Placer County to bring the county’s mPOWER program to Folsom in March 2014.

The regional mPOWER program promotes more efficient use of water and energy, enabling businesses and other property owners to reduce energy costs. mPower, which stands for Money for Property Owner Water and Energy efficiency Retrofitting, finances energy efficiency improvements and energy-generation systems such as solar with no upfront costs.

The $1.6 million financed through mPOWER Folsom will be used to install retrofits that include LED lighting; a “cool roof” system; a high efficiency heating, ventilation and air conditioning system; and a 402-kilowatt solar power system at Folsom Lake Ford and the neighboring Folsom Lake Kia dealership.

Officials said the solar system alone is projected to save about $75,000 annually over 25 years. Cities involved with mPower programs benefit on several levels, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions and meeting environmental goals.
