SMUD to host weekend trout derby at Rancho Seco
The Sacramento Municipal Utility District will host its annual trout derby this weekend at the Rancho Seco Recreational Area in Herald.
The event will be from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 14440 Twin Cities Road.
Various prizes are on the line for anglers. The event has been held since 1993 at the 160-acre Rancho Seco Lake.
The freshwater lake also is home to bass, bluegill, red-ear sunfish, crappie and catfish. In preparation for the derby, the lake recently was stocked with thousands of pounds of trout.
Derby tickets are $5 per person. General admission to the park is $10 per car. A valid California state fishing license is required for those 16 or older.
The Rancho Seco Recreational Area is 25 miles south of Sacramento, approximately 15 minutes east of Highway 99 on Twin Cities Road.
