United Way, others sponsor free tax-filing assistance
MyFreeTaxes.com, a nationwide partnership that provides free help in preparing state and federal tax returns, is offering its services to Sacramento-area residents.
To qualify for free tax-filing help, taxpayers must have 2014 income of $60,000 or less. The site says it can help taxpayers save an average of $200 in tax-preparation fees and help maximize tax refunds, including the earned income tax credit for low- to moderate-income filers.
The national partnership includes United Way, Goodwill Industries and the National Disability Institute. Locally, the program is being spearheaded by United Way California Capital Region. MyFreeTaxes.com, sponsored by Walmart, was founded seven years ago and is available in all 50 states.
