Is Blue Bottle Coffee expanding to Sacramento? How job listings get the idea brewing
Since 2002, an Oakland-based business promised only to serve coffee that was "less than 48 hours out of the roaster."
That success has led to Blue Bottle Coffee expanding throughout the Bay Area, down to Los Angeles, across the country to four East Coast cities and even setting up shop in Japan.
Now it looks like the business could be coming in Sacramento. Job listings for three production positions in the city – including a full-time production leader, advanced packaging lead and production team member – have been posted.
The listings don't clearly specify where in Sacramento a location would be set.
The roaster's presence in California's capital city wouldn't be new. In 2014, The Bee reported that Blue Bottle Coffee was featured as part of The Trade, Coffee & Coworking at 2220 K St., but as a wholesale account partner. However, The Trade's website now shows that it brews Counter Culture Coffee of Durham, N.C., for all coffee beverages.
Late last year, Nestle purchased majority interest in Blue Bottle Coffee. Bloomberg reported the world's largest food company acquired a 68 percent stake for $425 million.
