Downtown Ford is once again looking to move from its self-described “crummy location” in Sacramento.
The longtime auto dealership at 525 N. 16th St., has filed development papers with the city to ultimately construct about 88,500 square feet of dealership structures on 11.75 acres at the northwest corner West El Camino Avenue and Orchard Lane in west Natomas.
For years, Downtown Ford advertisements have poked fun at the dealership’s “crummy location,” wedged into tight quarters along the busy 16th Street corridor, site of almost daily gridlock as eastbound commuters head out of town during weekday afternoon rush hours.
The city approved a proposal in 2005 that ultimately stalled in 2008, when the Federal Emergency Management Agency imposed building restrictions in response to safety concerns about the levees that ring the Natomas basin. Building restrictions have since been lifted.
