Blue Lamp nightclub closing after farewell bash. ‘Thank you Sacramento’
The Blue Lamp in Sacramento, a 21-and-over music venue, has hosted its last concert and is apparently set to close after two decades in Sacramento.
The nightclub on Alhambra Boulevard has displayed messages on its marquee over the past week bidding farewell, including “Thank you Sacramento” appearing Monday and “It’s been a blast 2000-2020” seen in photos on social media.
The venue’s last show was this past weekend. Sacto Storytellers, Mob Rule and Prizefighters performed Saturday night.
Owner Gabriell Garcia, who also runs the Colony and Cafe Colonial, has alluded to the closure in public Facebook posts since September, and in early October the Blue Lamp page on Facebook also began promoting upcoming events as among its last.
In a reply to a user’s comment, Garcia suggested the Blue Lamp had been sold. It is not clear whether the site will continue as a different music venue under new ownership.
Garcia could not immediately be reached for comment Monday. Phone numbers listed for Blue Lamp were not in service late Monday morning, and the venue’s website was no longer live.
A “Bon Voyage” farewell party, including live music, is scheduled for 8 p.m. this Saturday at the venue, according to Blue Lamp’s Facebook page.
