Which Sacramento-area employers excel in diversity? Forbes list names 4 local companies
Media giant Forbes magazine named four Sacramento-area employers – Raley’s; University of California, Davis; UC Davis Health; and VSP Global – to its list of America’s best employers for diversity and inclusion.
UCD Health noted in its news release on the honor that 71 percent of its workforce self-identify as female, more than 26 percent as Asian/Native Hawaiian, more than 14 percent as Hispanic/Latinx, roughly 8 percent of its employees as black/African American, and almost 1 percent as American Indian.
“A crucial element in what makes UC Davis Health a best employer is a university-wide focus on cultivating a diverse and inclusive workforce,” said David Lubarsky, CEO of UC Davis Health and vice chancellor of Human Health Sciences. “Our Principles of Community, for example, provide all of us with a visionary guide for our goals in equity, justice, respect and understanding. We do it by building it into the fabric of our recruitment and retention. We don’t just say it.”
Farther south in the Central Valley, Modesto’s E. & J. Gallo Winery also made a list that included roughly 70 companies based in California, including giants such as Levi Strauss & Co., Google and Apple. In addition to UCD Health, there were 14 other health care systems on the list.
It was the third time that Forbes has done the list, teaming up with market research firm Statista to survey 60,000 U.S. citizens who worked for companies with 1,000 or more employees. The workers, whose responses remain anonymous, rate their employers. Then using these ratings, Statista ranks the top-scoring 500 companies.
Multinational software company SAP tops the list. The highest-ranking California company was Foster City-based Visa, at No 5. UC Davis was 52nd, UC Davis Health 101st, West Sacramento-based Raley’s is 310th and VSP Global of Rancho Cordova is 486th. E. & J. Gallo ranked 459th.
