Kimpton Sawyer hotel, part of downtown Sacramento revival, closes in coronavirus pandemic
Golden 1 Center closed two weeks ago. Now the hotel adjacent to the downtown Sacramento arena is closing, too.
The Sawyer hotel announced it’s shutting down Tuesday, the latest in a series of major businesses to close as the coronavirus pandemic worsens.
Much of the economy has ground to a halt, particularly after Gov. Gavin Newsom’s “stay at home” order was issued last week.
Both developed by the Sacramento Kings, The Sawyer and Golden 1 have been at the heart of downtown Sacramento’s revival in recent years.
“Given the COVID-19 situation and emphasis on social distancing, we’ve made the difficult but responsible decision to suspend our operations,” the hotel announced. The hotel is operated by Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants.
