See renderings for ‘On Broadway,’ 6-story affordable apartment complex planned in Sacramento
As the street continues to get a facelift, Broadway in Sacramento could be the site of one of the city’s next big affordable housing projects.
EAH Housing, a San Rafael-based developer, has plans to turn a lot at the northeast corner of Broadway and 19th Street into a six-story mix of retail and apartments. A single-story building that’s been vacant and fenced off for years is currently located at the site, which is directly adjacent to light-rail tracks.
1901 Broadway would become the On Broadway Apartments, with retail on the ground floor and five stories of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. The project’s architect is LPAS, the design firm behind 16 Powerhouse in midtown.
“This will be a 100% income-restricted affordable housing development that includes 1,769 square feet of retail area, 150 dwelling units, and 75 parking spaces,” the project description reads.
Plans and renderings for the project, which were submitted to the city at the start of this month and released to The Bee on Wednesday, show that On Broadway would have similar stylistic elements to 16 Powerhouse.
The 165,000 square-foot complex would include 75 single-bedroom units, 25 two-bedroom apartments and 50 three-bedroom units. It would also have both a community center and a “learning center,” and 111 long-term bicycle parking stalls.
A similar project is materializing just a few blocks west down Broadway, where the former Tower Records and later Dimple Records stores sat before being recently torn down. A five-story, mixed-use building is being planned for that location, as reported by the Sacramento Business Journal in April.
