Frozen dessert shop to open in Rocklin

Vampire Penguin – a shaved-snow specialty dessert shop – is projected to open Aug. 1 in Rocklin’s Blue Oaks Town Center.

The business, founded by brothers Leo and Paolo Angelo San Luis, opened its first store in Stockton on Halloween 2013, said Paolo Angelo San Luis. There are four Sacramento-area locations: south Sacramento, downtown Sacramento, Davis and Elk Grove.

“Vampire Penguin’s name comes from penguins loving snow,” San Luis said.

Shaved snow has a consistency between shaved ice and ice cream, the brothers said.

Vampire Penguin owners plan to expand with four new locations slated to open in Berkeley, San Mateo, Reno and Emeryville within the next few months.

Product prices range from $3 to $11.
