Homebuilding materials firm to close West Sacramento site, cut 50 jobs

Layoff notices

The homebuilding materials firm Quanex plans to close a West Sacramento site and lay off 50 workers this spring.

The Houston-based company notified the state that it will be closing the location, at 3640 Ramos Drive in West Sacramento, on March 21. Quanex makes window, door, solar, refrigeration and cabinetry products.

The company reported lower earnings in its most recent fiscal year: Net income fell to $33 million, from $82.5 million in the year prior. It recently closed an acquisition of Tyman, another materials firm.
