Sutter Health expands again: Medical centers planned for downtown and Elk Grove
Sutter Health announced two major projects this week: A 120,000-square-foot sports medicine center downtown, and a 56,000-square-foot specialty center in Elk Grove.
The announcements are part of a steady stream of investments for the Sacramento-based health system, whose leaders say they need to respond to a rising demand for medical services in a growing region.
The $67.8 million project in Elk Grove is slated for completion in fall 2026. The health system held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday at the site, 8170 Laguna Blvd.
“This facility will bring more care closer to home for our Elk Grove residents,” said Rachael McKinney, president of Sutter Health’s greater Sacramento division.
The orthopedics and sports medicine center will be located at 660 J St. It will offer orthopedics, concussion clinics, physical therapy, nutrition and sports psychology — intended to serve everyone from “elite athletes to weekend warriors,” McKinney told the Bee.
The health system did not yet have a cost estimate for the downtown project. It is expected to open in late 2027.
