Union reaches tentative agreement for 6,000 California grocery workers

The United Food and Commercial Workers union reached a tentative agreement covering 6,000 workers at Raley’s and the grocery chain’s two brands, Bel Air and Nob Hill Foods.

The Roseville-based union chapter said Monday that it is finalizing voting times and locations. The offer includes $1,100 ratification bonuses for full-time workers and $750 for part-time employees. It would increase funding for the workers’ pension plan, raise wages for many, and boost Sunday premium pay for certain workers with 20 or more years of service.

In July, the same union chapter threatened to strike at Safeway locations across Northern and Central California. The union reached a tentative agreement with Safeway’s parent, the Albertsons Companies, the morning of the planned, walkout.

If approved by union members, the contract with Raley’s would run through Oct. 14, 2028.

“This agreement is the direct result of members remaining united throughout the process,” UFCW 8-Golden State President Jacques Loveall said in a statement. “Our members don’t just keep these stores running, they’re the heart of their communities. This agreement honors their dedication and ensures they’re treated with the respect they deserve.”
