Johns Manville to temporarily lay off 150 employees at Willows plant
Johns Manville, a commercial roofing and insulation manufacturer, will be laying off 150 employees at its plant in Glenn County, according to a WARN notice issued on Feb. 6.
Located in Willows, layoffs will hit all positions at the plant, including 60 packing operators, 20 Q-Pack operators and 16 warehouse workers. The closure will be temporary, and the plant will remain open. The company will start its layoffs on April 19, the WARN notice stated.
Eric Brown, a spokesperson for Johns Manville, said the one-week closure in April is “to complete several capital projects.” He did not address the employee layoffs in a statement sent to The Sacramento Bee.
“The entire plant will not be closed, as the warehouse and maintenance functions will remain open,” Brown said in a statement.
The Willows plant is the company’s the only facility in Northern California, according to its website. Their facility specializes in insulation and is at 5916 County Road 49.
The manufacturer expects the plant, in its entirety, to be fully operational around April 26, according to the WARN notice.
Johns Manville describes itself as the “leading manufacturer and marketer” for roofing and insulation, according to its website. The company’s products are used in multiple industries, building production, wind energy and automotive. Johns Manville currently has 44 facilities across North America and Europe.
