Roseville’s Adventist Health lays off more than 100 employees in California

Adventist Health, a nonprofit healthcare system with its headquarters in Roseville, has laid off more than 100 employees across multiple California-based facilities.

In total, the healthcare system has laid off 125 employees within the following counties: Kern, Kings, Lake, Los Angeles, Mendocino, Napa, Placer, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, Solano, Tuolumne, Ventura and Yuba, according to the organization’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act letter. Layoffs will be effective Friday, July 3.

Adventist Health did not respond to an interview request from The Sacramento Bee.

In the WARN letter addressed to the Employment Development Department, network director of human resources, Todd Reese, wrote the layoffs are prompted by a “restructuring initiative.” A part of this includes a “centralization and standardization” initiative in the Quality, Risk, Infection, Prevention and Accreditation departments.

“As part of this process, certain job functions and positions across multiple facilities within our health system are being eliminated.” Reese wrote.

He said Adventist Health has created new jobs for those affected by the company-wide layoff. As of June 25, which is when the WARN notice was sent, Reese said more than 80 employees are in these new roles.

“While some existing roles are being eliminated, Adventist Health has created new positions within the centralized structure,” Reese wrote. “And many affected employees have been offered opportunities to transition into these roles.”

According to information from the WARN notice, the county with the largest number of layoffs is Kern, with 15.

Adventist Health is a faith-based nonprofit with locations across the West Coast and Hawaii in cities and rural areas.
