Pleasanton-based bakery cafe to open in Sacramento early next year

Pleasanton-based Specialty’s Café & Bakery plans to open in the Bank of the West Tower at 500 Capitol Mall in downtown Sacramento next spring.

The Specialty’s chain features fresh-baked goods in high-tech setting. Customers can order pastries, sandwiches, soups and salads at self-serve kiosks in the cafes or online at www.specialtys.com.

“We were very picky about whom we chose to occupy our building and serve our tenants, having turned away several concepts and operators whom were not a good fit,” Angelo G. Tsakopoulos of Tsakopoulos Investments said in a statement. “We are excited that Specialty’s Café & Bakery is choosing 500 Capitol Mall as their first location in the Sacramento area.” Tsakopoulos completed the 26-story building in 2009.

Specialty’s, started in its founder’s garage in 1987, now operates about 50 restaurants in the Bay Area, Southern California, Chicago and Seattle.
