The Internal Revenue Service is reminding taxpayers that next Thursday is the deadline for those who requested a six-month filing extension beyond this year’s usual April 15 filing date.
“The IRS estimates that over 1.1 million California taxpayers will have likely requested an extension using Form 4868 and need to get their 2014 tax return in by the Oct. 15 deadline,” said IRS spokesman David Tucker.
The IRS is recommending that taxpayers use the IRS e-file or Free File programs to electronically file their tax returns. Free File employs free tax software to help expedite the filing process.
Information on both can be found at irs.gov.
