Another restaurant food-delivery service launched Tuesday in Sacramento.
San Francisco-based Caviar bills itself as an easy way to order from popular independent restaurants in Sacramento, and it says it delivers restaurant-prepared dishes in the way local chefs intend them to be served.
More than a dozen restaurants in the Caviar loop include Hot Italian, Pizza Rock and Cafeteria 15L. Caviar said it partners directly with each restaurant. The company operates in 17 U.S. metro markets with the addition of Sacramento, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston and Atlanta.
Andrea Lepore, co-founder of Hot Italian, which operates at 1627 16th St. in midtown, said her business started using Caviar at its Emeryville location last year.
“We’ve definitely seen our sales increase as a result, and we’ve expanded our reach to customers that might not have stopped by our restaurant in person. Delivery can be daunting, but Caviar has made the process easy for us.”
Local residents can place orders via Caviar’s website – trycaviar.com – or with a free mobile app for Android and iOS.
As part of the grand-opening festivities, Caviar said the first 100 customers to place an order for delivery in the Sacramento delivery area would receive a $25 credit toward future Caviar deliveries. In addition, the delivery fee for Sacramento deliveries will be only $1 in October, and delivery fees are always waived for first-time customers.
Caviar, founded in 2012, joins other companies offering restaurant food deliveries to local residents, including San Francisco-based Postmates and Chicago-based GrubHub.
