The Greatest Show on Snow is turning back to liquid after an essential freezing unit broke down at Raley Field in West Sacramento.
“The whole event is shut down for the time being,” said Robert Barsanti, a spokesman for Raley Field and the River Cats minor league baseball team. “One of the chillers that keeps the ice frozen shut down. We’re working on getting it fixed.”
The six-week “holiday extravaganza,” which opened Friday, features a two-story ice slide and a public skating rink, Barsanti said. Operators hope to have it reopened by the end of the week, he said.
The rink contains most of the melting water but not all of it; some will likely leak onto the baseball field, he said.
