A new restaurant is coming to Cesar Chavez Plaza in downtown Sacramento.
The Sacramento City Council approved a lease Tuesday for a vacant, existing building in the park with Ernest Delgado, the operator of Mayahuel, at 12th and K streets.
Delgado hopes to open his new restaurant at Chavez plaza, Ninth and I streets, in the spring.
Delgado will call his new restaurant La Cosecha, in English “the harvest,” an apt choice for an eatery at a park named for farmworker, labor leader Chavez.

The restaurant space, which is owned by the city, has been vacant for a year. The Cafe Soleil operated out of the site for many years.
The restaurant will have two patio dining areas surrounded by fencing and new landscaping. The restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Total cost of the project to bring a restaurant back to the park is $916,000. City investment for park and building improvement is $485,400. The other portion of the project cost is Delgado’s responsibility.
