Sutter Medical Center CEO leaving for health system in Georgia

Carrie Owen Plietz, who oversaw the construction and 2015 opening of the expanded Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, campus in midtown, will leave her position as CEO of Sutter Health’s flagship hospital on Feb. 22 to take a position in Georgia.

Sacramento-based Sutter Health said Thursday that Owen Plietz will become executive vice president and chief operating officer of WellStar Health System in Marietta, the suburban community just north of Atlanta. She is a Georgia native.

Owen Plietz began her career in the Sutter Health system in 1999 as an administrative resident at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. She was named COO of Sutter Medical Center in 2010. The following year, she was promoted to CEO.

Sutter Health spokesman Gary Zavoral said in an email that Sutter officials are “working on a transition and interim leadership plan now, as well as the CEO search process.”
