Chicago Fire pizzeria opens in Elk Grove

Folsom-based West of Chicago Restaurants Inc., which oversees the Sacramento-area chain of Chicago Fire pizza restaurants, has opened its fifth local eatery in Elk Grove.

Hours at 7101 Laguna Blvd., are 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The company also oversees two Chicago Fire restaurants in Folsom, one in midtown Sacramento and one in Roseville.

Chicago Fire was started in 2003 by CEO and corporate chef Eric Schnetz, who was born in Carmichael and raised in Palatine, Ill., a suburb northwest of Chicago. Schnetz parlayed his extensive knowledge of Chicago-style pizzas into a local business.

Last year, Schnetz said was contemplating Chicago Fire pizzerias in the Bay Area, Los Angeles and outside California.
