Folsom’s Palladio at Broadstone shopping complex recently lost a country-laced eatery but will pick up a close cousin of the upscale Nordstrom retail chain next year.

Nordstrom Inc. announced Wednesday that it will open a Nordstrom Rack store next year in the Palladio center. The 33,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open in spring 2016.

Nordstrom Rack is the discount clearance arm of the upscale, Seattle-based retailer.

Gloria Wright, Palladio’s general manager, said the Nordstrom Rack store will go into the site formerly occupied by Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill, which abruptly closed at the end of December. When the country-western singer’s restaurant closed, speculation immediately centered on reports that Nordstrom Rack would take over the vacated spot.

The Toby Keith restaurant occupied about 15,000 square feet. Wright said construction will begin soon to expand the site to more than 30,000 square feet to accommodate the Nordstrom outlet.

An adjoining, 3,000-square-foot building also will be constructed for future use. Wright said the shopping complex is talking with several potential tenants for the smaller building.

“We are very excited about this addition,” Wright said. “This is a great fit and something our customers have have been wanting.”

The Nordstrom Rack store will become part of a Palladio mix of anchors that currently includes Whole Foods, Sports Authority and H&M. Other retail businesses include Gymboree, Victoria’s Secret, Starbucks, Red Robin, Pinkberry and a 16-screen movie theater complex.

Nordstrom Rack’s off-price merchandise covers a wide selection of apparel, accessories and shoes, with savings ranging from 30 to 70 percent off regular Nordstrom retail prices.

Nordstrom Inc., founded in 1901, operates 292 stores in 38 states, including 167 Nordstrom Rack outlets.

Construction on the new Nordstrom Rack is expected to last through November, when Nordstrom will take over to finish the interior.

The Palladio site will be the third Nordstrom Rack in the area, joining those at Howe ’Bout Arden in Sacramento and at Creekside Town Center in Roseville. Nordstrom also operates two regular retail stores at Arden Fair mall in Sacramento and at Westfield Galleria at Roseville.
