Occupancy rate falls, but revenue up at Sacramento-area lodgings
Sacramento-area motel/hotel operators, coming off a strong year in 2015, saw room occupancy rates dip slightly in the first quarter of 2016.
Despite that, average revenue was up compared with 2015.
The average occupancy rate of area lodgings in this year’s January-to-March period was 71.5 percent, down from 72.3 percent in last year’s first quarter, according to CBRE Hotels in San Francisco.
Hotel industry analysts say 70 percent occupancy is considered the point at which hotels can comfortably raise rates.
