Report heralds state’s biotech jobs
California’s bioscience industry tops the nation with more than 242,000 jobs, or nearly 15 percent of the U.S. total, according to a new report.
The report, released by the Biotechnology Innovation Organization in Washington, D.C., and the Ohio-based TEConomy Partners LLC noted that the state has a high concentration of jobs and firms in five major biotechnology subsectors: medical devices/equipment; research, testing, medical labs and drugs/pharmaceuticals.
The report said California also leads the nation in patent activity within the industry, with nearly 30,000 patents submitted since 2012.
