Tax preparers are increasingly becoming targets of cybercriminals and should take additional steps to protect clients from personal data theft, the Internal Revenue Service said this week.
The IRS, various state tax agencies and representatives of the tax-preparation industry announced the “Protect Your Clients; Protect Yourself” campaign to provide tax professionals with safeguards to deter fraud artists. The program will run through the start of the 2017 tax-filing season.
