Check out $27 million historic mansion on edge of cliff overlooking Pacific Ocean
Set atop a dramatic cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Laguna Beach, the historic 25,000 square-foot Villa Rockledge mansion is on the market for $27 million.
Restored and upgraded, the 12-bedroom, 11-bath home has retained its classic Mediterranean-inspired style. The property has a rich history and all of the allure of Old Hollywood. Actress Bette Davis met her third husband at the villa in the mid-1940s and Actor Erroll Flynn was a frequent visitor, according to the listing.
Villa Rockledge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The private estate—with a main house, meticulously landscaped grounds and four guest villas—was built from 1918 through 1922. Sitting on a bluff in Orange County between Moss Point and Victoria Beach, the residence was designed by builder Frank A. Miller and architect Arthur Benton, who are known for their Mission Revival Style architecture, according to the American Institute of Architects.
With great attention to detail and hand-made elements, the mansion features stained-glass windows, a cigar loft, carved wood doors, wrought iron accents, stone fireplaces, window seats, hardwood floors and crystal chandeliers. Outside, there are numerous decks with ocean views and a stone staircase that leads to a private cove.
Because Villa Rockledge is Mills Act-approved, a buyer could get a significant tax break for preserving the property’s historic appearance.

The landmark home has been on and off the market in the past few years. The property last sold in 2012 for $12.75 million, according to realtor.com.
